Last year, the world collectively experienced displacement and with our everyday lives changed, many are left feeling disconnected from familiar comforts, big and small. While efforts to eliminate Covid-19 remain to continue, we are all finding new ways to live in a new normal at a distance, in a different spatial context.

This year the emphasis on spending time outside highlights the possibilities outdoor furniture can offer for socialising with a distance. We are talking about furniture for balconies, terraces and gardens of course! Bright and cheerful colours create a summer-like feeling opposed to the darkness of the winter. In Finland especially, summer has always been a time when we use all opportunities available to spend our days outside and enjoy the warmth and full-blown colours of the season.

Fibreglass is an outstanding material for outdoor purposes, ticking boxes as a hygienic, extremely durable and waterproof material. Our designs made of fibreglass can withstand outdoor conditions year-round ranging from -30 to +30 degrees. The gleaming fibreglass matched with elements of nature are bringing out a wide range of bright shades. Summer-like colours of yellow, orange and pink are the perfect match with green surroundings.

The icons made of fibreglass in our collection, such as Pastil, Tomato and Mushrooms, are also the perfect companion nearby water. Whether you need to decorate the poolside, beach by the cabin or terrace for the sauna, these designs will not only glow up your space but can also withstand the element of water. For example, our Tomato floats and is stable on water so those who would rather enjoy the day a little further from the shore can safely take it in to the lake.

The multifunctional Rattan Collection

Lately we have been delighted to witness rattan as a material picking up its charm again in interior design. Our Rattan Collection has been originally designed in 1961 and was recently taken back into production and relaunched in 2019. On top of the multifunctionality of the creations by their design, the Rattan Collection has also a new functional aim as the black poly-rattan pieces of the series offer the same aesthetics and comfort as natural rattan but topped with abilities to match outdoor conditions.

As a material rattan is diverse, durable and ecological. Our Rattan Collection comprises pieces that are very light and easy to move around allowing you to switch things up in your space as often as you’d like to. The circular shapes and ergonomics characterising for Eero are structured by a sturdy aluminium frame. The iconic Elephant Boot comprises the lounge space while the Rattan Mushroom in two different sizes and the Double Mushroom can serve a multipurpose due to their ability to assist as either a stool, small table or a footstool.

We have been lucky to witness already several decades of celebrating our functional furniture both indoors and outdoors. It never ceases to amaze us how Eero’s classics are as relevant now as they were at the time of their design. For the upcoming summer we are looking forward to seeing many beautiful terraces, patios and balconies decorated with our forever classic fibreglass designs and the novel black poly-rattan pieces from our Rattan Collection. These pieces are of course equally eligible for indoors as well, cheering up your everyday during the wintertime too! We hope that during these difficult times our distinguished classics will bring you positivity through colours and joy.

Don’t forget to use #aarniooriginals in your pictures on social media featuring our designs, we love to see the atmosphere in your spatial creations!
